Over the past fifteen years or so there has been a resurgence in collecting miltaria, especially medal groups, with gallantry awards being at a premium. Combined with the growing interest in family trees and histories, service records have become easier to access. People are able to find out about what their ancestors did during wars. This has brought about a rise in the prices of these relatively modern medals. Weapons including swords, flintlock and percussion pistols still prove to be popular despite the tightening restrictions on the keeping of weapons.
The sea and navy have strong ties here in the Westcountry and nautical items are always sought after either for historical importance or purely for home decoration. Ships wheels, compasses, signal flags and even crockery and cutlery from shipping lines always proving to be collectable.
