Royal Presentation 18ct Gold Chronometer Pocket Watch with stopwatch function by McInnes Brothers of Glasgow & Newcastle On Tyne, 50.5mm case hallmarked for London 1886, 100.5g gross. Running imperfectly and stopwatch function also.
The back engraved with a speared dragon and inscribed "TO MARCUS BERESFORD FROM A.E. ASCOT JUNE 16 1885".
Note: Marcus Beresford was the son of the 4th Marquess of Waterford, he ran the stables of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales from 1890. On the Prince's accession as King Edward VII in 1901, Beresford was appointed an Extra Equerry and Manager of His Majesty's Thoroughbred Stud, serving until the King's death in 1910.
A couple of bruises to the edges. Dial with slight defect to whole for centre second hand (this moves and returns to XII when depressing stopwatch button). This has been fully wound and balance moves freely for up to 10 seconds before stopping.
